Energy storage is fast approaching - and we should embrace it

Energy storage is often seen as the holy grail of the renewables industry. The final piece in the jigsaw, and one which has been decades in development.

The possibility of storing clean energy that everyone can use makes intuitive sense. It's an exciting thought that we live in a world where such ingenious and efficient ideas are coming to life, and that large-scale battery storage is a here and now technology.
There are already a host of different technologies currently being deployed at scale around the world, with others also in advanced stages of research.

The UK is one of the countries which has taken a lead role in developing new projects. We know, for example, that at least 55 of RenewableUK's own members are actively investing in storage technologies. Hertfordshire's own Renewable Energy Systems, a major global developer, has built over 100 megawatts of storage capacity, with another 200MW in the works around the world.
